3 Regional Worker Co-op Efforts

By Anonymous

These are all anti-authoritarian-friendly spaces where principled anarchists can and should participate where possible to nurture their healthy development against the inevitable problems that come from emerging from an oppressive environment.

The Chicago Co-op Convergence

is a space for the co-op curious and cooperatives in the region[1], including worker cooperatives, to come together to learn from each other, foster connections, and germinate practical action.

In my estimation this is the space with the most practical self-management across workplaces and communities occurring in the region within a framework that fosters People Power among ordinary people.

Chicago Co-op Convergence strives to meet virtually once per month in a general meeting for the above-mentioned people and once per month to plan those meetings.

The Worker Co-op Solidarity Fund and the Worker Co-op Liaisons P2P Network

are both efforts that have arisen this year as a result of the 2021 Regional Rendezvous for worker cooperatives that MadWorc[2] spearheaded putting together.

The Solidarity Fund seeks to find a way to facilitate crowdfunding for worker cooperatives in the Midwest region and nation to get their start or to sustain themselves.

The Worker Co-op Liaisons P2P Network is an effort to have direct connections among worker cooperatives without any intermediaries in the region and across the country.

Participation in the last two mentioned are on an invite basis at the moment.

[1] In the least, Illinois when I refer to “region”. The group is still figuring out what geography it will definitively draw the line at.
