While the neo-liberal CEO was finding ways to cut wages and pursue profits, the appeasement, back patting slogans were launched. The disenfranchised “healthcare hero” can wait for remuneration, until executive bonuses are secured. While the clinicians and managers paraded themselves around as heroes, the vulnerable suffered all the more.
The janitors, the maintenance workers, the food service workers, all the people in the trenches, risked themselves for far less than the upper-level clinicians and managers. What was their thanks when the smoke cleared? The Neo-liberal executives lauded wage increases that amounted to an extra couple cups of coffee and lunch once a month.
